Fashion show features local Black designers and stylists | News

Local Black designers and stylists show off their skills at a hair, make-up and fashion show March 16 hosted by Snips Designs LLC.

The event showcased Black hair, clothing and make-up stylists, and vendors were Black-owned businesses from Selma and Montgomery. Former pro football player Michael Johnson even made an appearance as a model for a hair stylist.

The lineup of designers and stylists included Bea’s Sassy Jewels, Live Over Money, The “B” Factors, YO Fashions, Snips Designs, Dutchess Hair Salon and Legends Apparrel, Yes od Apparrel, Coco Cuties, Twisting Perfection, Just 4 U Creative Hair, Beauty by Tootsies LLC, Cato’s, Mo’ Hair and Boutique, Cutz by Shu and Naturally Gifted.

Vendors included Naturally Gifted (Nikki Holloway and Elizabeh Kee), The Partyficial, Event’s 360 (Latonya and Laila Mitchell), Sonja Designs (Sonja Walker), Summer The Baker (Summer Sturdivant), Kakes By Ki (Kiera Boyd), The Lemonade Lady (LaToya Smitherman), YNOT Food Truck (Natasha Fowlkes), Alberta MarketPlace and Yomi (Jacolby B. Caldwell, Kesaan McGhee, Keena Smith-Talley).

Music was provided by DJ RPM Sound Entertainment. The master of ceremonies was Scott E. Simpkins. The show opened with positive affirmations with Mark Myles, followed by prayer led by a local minister and prize giveaways led by Simpkins.

Beatrice Cleveland, Owner of Snips Designs LLC and a home-based hairstylist, was the host of the fashion show.

“I have the desire to get together with people in the beauty industry where they all get together and collaborate together,” Cleveland said. “And all the small businesses can get together as well and be able to set up. We just had a good time. That’s my goal.”
